This week in my Marketing Management class we had a guest speaker, Leslie Moore, an Arkansas State University Alumni. She is now working as a creative director in at a business. She came to our class this week to let everyone know about the importance of branding and design. I've always enjoyed design and really thought the class was interesting.
So, this class focused on what branding was, what design was, and how you should use both. I wasn't a stranger to the fact that design was important to a business and could establish what a brand was about. However, there was definitely some new and useful information to be had. She went over things from what fonts to use in for a certain image, how colors can affect your brand, and how a website should be designed. Did you know how many parts there are to a letter? I couldn't believe it. We also went over how you can affect the mood and image of your business with colors. Ms. Moore also went over some basic web design. You should be able to tell what a website is for immediately and it should be easy to find what you need from it. I enjoyed her use of examples. She had brought some humorous examples of what you should and shouldn't do for many aspects of web design. For example, she had a white background with black text that explained you should use contrasting colors for text to make it legible. The next picture she showed was of a rainbow background with bright letters on it that were almost unreadable that simply said "don't do this". There were other examples that were similar but applied to how much space between letters, size of letters, and how it's margins line up. Each time the "do this" slide was dramatically better than the "don't do this" slides.
Hopefully, I can go forward with the information and improve any web presences I maintain. I will use this information for website design just like this blog!
